Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 is a fun WWII Squad based FPS and the first title in a series of games that spans across different gaming platforms. Now, normally I am not much of a fan of squad based games. Why? Well, frankly I have enough trouble keeping myself alive without having to worry about different characters too. However, this game was highly enjoyable!

You can tell that Gearbox was inspired by the popular HBO series Band of Brothers(Which came out 4 years before BIA). Not just in name, but it has a similar opening soundtrack, Similar titling colors..among other details. However, similarities aside, it’s still very much its own game, and I think has proven it’s self to be one of the better WWII titles of that generation of games. So, yes! I enjoyed the game very much! Unfortunate though, the game is not perfect and does have some flaws! Well, maybe not “Flaws” but negatives that might put some gamers off!

The first thing you are going to notice are that the graphics aren’t that great! But come on! It’s a 2005 game! Perspective man! For that era? The graphics were top notch! This same thing applies to the voice acting. By today’s standards? Not so good! But back then? Aces!

Secondly, I would have liked the game to me more cinematic! I’m a sucker for a good story in my games, and I love a good cinema scene! Thankfully the game DOES have a good story and some small cutscenes between each level that helps move the story along!

Thirdly, I didn’t care for default controls! They were clunky and just plain awkward! Thankfully the controls are all changeable in the options of the game, which will allow you to go with whatever controller scheme goes best for your playstyle.

Lastly, I would have loved to see a better cover system in this game. Sure, you can crouch behind walls/barrels/logs/ravines, but there’s no Real cover system in place. That being said, Cover systems weren’t very common in 2005(If they existed at all!), So, that too can be overlooked in my opinion.

Other than that, the game is a fantastic WWII title! I’m looking forward to checking out the rest of the BIA titles.

mohpaI’ve told you before how Gaming is a pretty cheap hobby! Between all the excellent sales and bundles, it costs almost nothing, and if you really wanted to, you could grab only freebies and would literally cost you nothing! Let’s be honest, free is always good! Which is why I thought I would let you all know about this fantastic freebie offer! It’s only for a limited time, so be sure and grab it while it’s available.

The game is the classic WWII FPS “Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault” from EA games. and it can be yours for absolutely nothing! No tricks and no gimmicks…As long as you claim it before they remove it as a freebie, it’s yours! Now the game DOES require Origin, which is basically like EAs version of steam.

Instructions on Claiming: First go here! Once there,  click the orange ‘Download Now Free’ button located on the right hand side of the screen. At this point you will need to log into your Origin account (or create an Origin account if you don’t already have one). Then just follow the on-screen instructions and the game is yours to keep(Even after the limited time freebie giveaway ends).

This giveaway could be available for days, weeks or even a few months. You never can tell with EA, so grab it as quickly as possible. It was available free at the time of this writing however.

In my opinion Medal of Honor and Battlefield are the two best wartime FPS franchises on the market, with Call of Duty a distant third, so it REALLY is worth grabbing! Anyway, happy gaming!

WolfensteinFeat

If you have ever played Wolfenstien: The New Order, then you pretty much know what to expect in this game. It’s pretty much just more of the same. However, if you haven’t played it, and are unfamiliar with the story and events of W:TNO, don’t fret because that knowledge isn’t mandatory since this game is a prequel.

The game is a FPS, that takes place during WWII along an alternate timeline, where the Nazis have perfected robotics, cybernetics and weapon-tech. Meaning you will find yourself battling robotic super soldiers, cyborgs and well equipped soldiers eager to tear your head off.

While the game is a FPS, it does have many stealth elements. Sure, you can run in guns blazing and possibly survive. However the safer, and in my opinion way more fulfilling method, is stealthing your way through certain locations. Why blast a heavily armored super soldier when you can sneak through some air ducts and get behind him to shut off his power? Why run through a kennel and battle cyborg dogs when you can sneak up to them while they sleep and silence them quickly?

Basically, the game should appeal to both fans of stealth games, as well as FPS enthusiasts. There’s really a lot to love with this game! Although you should be warned that the game is not without it’s faults, which I will list below! First though,  allow me to tell you what it does well.

Pros
  • Flawless controller support
  • Incredibly long for a 20 dollar game
  • Breathtaking graphics
  • Excellent voice acting
  • Fantastic Storyline
  • Vent Crawling!
  • Good variety of enemies
  • Challenging gameplay with adjustable difficulty levels
Cons
  • No Multi-player
  • Inadequate Tutorial
  • Not much replay value.
  • Occasionally the AI can be a bit dimwitted
  • No manual save

RATING: 7/10

There’s a game for the xbox 360 called battlefield 1943. It’s an online war shooter, and is available in the Xbox marketplace in their arcade section. Now, to begin with I want to say this game is a bit expensive compard to other arcade titles. However the graphics are great, the fun factor is superb and it’s exciting! Great way to kill a few mins or a few hours! Taking all that into consideration, it would be totally worth the cost.

Don’t go spending your MS Points yet though, because there’s a downside, and it’s a big one! It’s the lag! It’s insane! In fact, the lag makes the game nearly unplayable. When the game first came out, the lag was fine! So, naturally I bought it. The lag was fine for a few weeks too, I enjoyed the game, was happy with my purchase. Then the lag hit! It started about 4 months ago, and it’s a common problem, look it up online.

The lag is so bad in fact, that it makes the game almost useless! It’s practically unplayable and the purchase of the game was a waste of money. Honestly, I feel Microsoft should remove it from the marketplace until whoever is hosting the servers gets their act together and gets the lag taken care of.

Bottom line, stay FAR away from this game. Its a great game, ruined by poor servers.
