I have been a cable cord cutter for several years now, and have managed to get along just fine relying on my Roku, and all the wonderous apps/channels you can get for it! Mainly, Netflix and HULU! This set-up has worked great up until recently! See, I have recently began having “Cable Cravings”! Mainly I started missing little things like waking up in the morning and watching the news with a cup of coffee and actually knowing what was going on in the world before stepping out into it! I also missed just vegging out in front of the TV and watching whatever comes on next! Yea, I can do that on Hulu(Kinda), but after about 2 and a half episodes of something I get a “Hey! Are you still there?” message flashing across my TV which requires me to jump up and grab the remote to confirm that I haven’t died while watching golden girls! If I don’t confirm that I am there in time, it stops the program. To me, this kinda ruins the “Veg-out” feeling!

So, I decided to try something “Newish” to me! One of those live TV streaming apps! There were a few to choose from; I went with Playstation Vue, but it’s far from the only option! There’s Sling TV and DirectTV NOW, and maybe more services that I just haven’t heard of! Plus, I’m sure more companies will be coming out with their own soon enough!

Why did I go with Vue? Well, for me it was just the better choice! your preferences might be different! You should definitely try them all out! Each one has a free 7 day trial, so you can see which one fits your needs best! I tried them all out, and as I said Vue worked best for me. Below is my experiences with DirectTV NOW and Sling TV.

→DirectTV NOW: I was constantly kicked from the app and thrown error screens. So, I basically didn’t get to experience this at all. I googled it a bit, and found out that a lot of people have this issue…but there are others who seem to use it just fine. Not sure what causes it to work fine for some, and not for others…so, until they geDt the app working properly, I decided to stay away.

→Sling TV: It had a nice looking guide, but it was extremely slow and laggy on my Roku. It didn’t crash out on me, or throw errors my way. It was just really slow, and on occasion it was unresponsive. I found myself having to double and sometimes triple click to make a selection.

So, as you can see the other options just didn’t really work for me! Vue did! It wasn’t perfect by any means! It doesn’t have Viacom channels! This means no Comedy Channel, TV Land, VH1, CMT and no MTV among other channels! And to be perfectly honest? “I want my MTV!” – So, if this is a deal killer for you? I totally get that! It almost was for me! Combine that with the fact, that Vue just got rid of their Viacom channels last year! That means, odds are they won’t be coming to the service!

Vue for me also doesn’t offer CBS to me! Though apparently, they do offer it to about 50% of their viewer base according to some site I read. I however am not in that footprint! Which means I have to also subscribe to CBS All-Access to watch my CBS shows! Not too much of an issue, because All-Access has a few digital exclusive shows that interest me anyway.

So, what exactly did Vue do right?!? Well, their app for the PS4 runs and looks amazing! it has a fantastic looking guide, that reminds me of my old cable box guide! It gives descriptions, you can view ahead! It’s just amazing! Unfortunately, the Roku app, isn’t anywhere near as awesome! There’s no guide, and if there are descriptions available for episodes? I haven’t figured out how to access it! So, in order to “Get the most out of it”, I use the PS4 app! This is a bit of a bummer, since generally I prefer to use my game consoles strictly as game consoles, to avoid excessive wear and tear.

Another amazing feature of Vue is that it has a DVR in the cloud! you can tell Vue to record something or all episodes of something, and it will record it and store it in the cloud for a month! This means it takes up no space! It’s saved in the cloud! Also, unlike with my old regular cable company, it will still record the episode or movie even if your power or cable goes out!

So, yeah! For me, VUE was just the way to go! However as I said before, it might not be for you! So, I strongly urge you to try all the free trials and see which one fits you best! Also, if there are other similar services that I was unaware of comment and let me know!

English: “Evel” Dick Donato from Big Brother 8 (U.S.) and Big Brother 13 (U.S.). This image has been modified from its original source to include the subject only. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Big Brother has been airing here in the United States of America since the year 2000, and over the course of those 13 years, there have been a wide variety of players who have entered the house. Many good players, some great players and of course, some piss poor players. There have been villains and heroes, love birds and enemies. So, with yet another season of Big Brother just around the corner, and one already airing in Canada, let’s take a look back at the best and worst that the Big Brother house had to throw at us.

Keep in mind, this entire article is based entirely on my opinion, and each person may have their own opinion.

Best Player: Without a doubt, I would have to give this to Evel Dick. He’s not my favorite player, but he was damn good at Big Brother. Not only did he win season 8, but I am fairly confident that if had remained in the house during season 13, he probably would have won that too! He played the game well, but he played the house guests even better.

Best Floater: Mike Dutz was one of my top 10 favorite players in Big Brother history, and out of those 10 was the only floater. Watching him was a blast, he was often times quiet and seemed to keep to himself, and on occasion it would seem as if he forgot where he was, or what he was doing. A look of confusion would wash across his face for the briefest of moments, before he returned to normal, often times leaving what he was doing behind.

Worst Player: This one goes to Ronnie Talbot, which I admit was a huge shock to me! I expected big things from him, and he talked a good talk. How ever, when it came to playing the game, it seemed like his strategy consisted of just lying to every single person in the house, which was the stupidest move imaginable! All it would take is any one person, to mention something to any OTHER one person, and it would come apart! Needless to say, his lies blew up in his face, and resulted in him hiding himself away in the HOH room from the angry mob below. While he claimed to be an expert of the game, it quickly became apparent that he was a horrible player.

Best Villain: Who can out-evil Evel Dick? His strategy which ultimately led to his season 8 win, consisted of him being the biggest asshole imaginable. Not only was he a huge villain, but also a fierce competitor. His strategy worked wonders for him, as his actions kept people stressed angry and on occasion unable to sleep. I find it hard to believe that this strategy could have been pulled off successfully by anyone other than Evel Dick.

Best Hero: When Jeff Schroder first appeared in Big Brother, I assumed he was going to be another musclebound jock. Much to my surprise he wasn’t. He formed a tight alliance with fellow houseguest Jordan, and a Showmance that developed into a romance outside of the house brought them even closer. Jeff quickly became the fan favorite of his season, and for good reason! He played honestly and with integrity. In a sea full of sharks, he stood his own, and went pretty far!

Best Cryer: While I would like to give this title to Rachel, who found herself in tears a lot, including at one point hiding and crying in a bush shortly after a competition. The real winner of this title would have to be Amber from season 8! She has probably outcried all of the houseguests combined, tear for tear.

Best Couple: The Big Brother house has seen more than it’s share of showmances and romances, but few have lasted long, or caught the attention of so many, than Jeff and Jordan. Fact is, they were two good people, and they were just cute together. Their relationship is still going, with all indicators being a happy relationship. Some could argue that the “Brenchel” should be best couple, and it was in the running. The only thing that kept it from getting the title, was rumors of Brendens unfaithfulness.

Best Enemies: My god, the house has had probably more enemies, than showmances. Something about being locked in a house with people, who are specifically picked to rub on someones nerve, has a way of…Well, rubbing on someones nerve!

The most entertaining enemy would have to be the Season 8 rivalry between Dick and Jen! The two genuinely disliked each other, and while I am not sure if that dislike carried on outside of the house, it sure was entertaining in-house! The fighting eventually culminated with Dick dumping a glass of Tea onto Jens head, and Jen retaliating by destroying Dicks cigarettes with Bleach.

Best Alliance: When it comes to Alliances, very few can argue against the extremely succesful Season 2 Alliance of Chilltown. Not only was it the first Big Brother Alliance, but it was between Dr. Will and Mike Boogie, two players whom many would say were in the top 5 best players who have ever played the game.

Best Twist: The motto of Big Brother America, is “Expect the unexpected”. This is because if there’s one thing Big Brother loves, it’s throwing twists into the game. Most seasons have one, which leaves a lot to choose between, however my personal favorite twist, was the Twin Twist from Season 5, where we saw twins Adria and Natalie unbeknownst to the houseguests, switching back and forth and playing the same role, much to the confusion of the houseguests, during the first part of the game. Afterwards, they were both allowed to enter and play.

Best Season: My personal favorite season was 8. This is because a lot was happening, and there was never a dull moment in that house! Live feeds were always exciting, and I just could not get enough. It was so interesting, that even my mom, who hates reality TV was tuning in each week, and yes, even got a Real subscription, just to watch the live feeds. Special note, she has never had that amount of interest in any following season.

Most Memorable: When I think back to all the past seasons, the player who sticks out in my mind the most is the lovable season 1 player known forever more as “Chicken George”. Was he a great player? No, but this isn’t a great player title. It’s most memorable, and I don’t think the image of him dancing around in his chicken suit will ever be wiped from my memory.

Personal Favorite: Frank Eudy, without a doubt. He played the game with honesty and integrity. Sure, it didn’t win him the game, but he played it well, and best of all, he left the game with his morals still intact, which is something that can’t be said for most people who find themselves competing in the Big Brother house.

Big Brother is one of my television guilty pleasures. It comes on every year, and is one of the few positives about summer!  The house guests this year however left a lot to be desired. They just weren’t interesting, with the exception of Willie. Which is unfortunate, since he’s now out of the house. He wasn’t even voted out, he was ejected from the BB14 house because of a physical confrontation, that resulted in Willies head striking the head of Joe(another house guest).

It’s a shame that happened, because I really had Willie pegged as winning that game. I don’t even think he would have went home that week. I mean, if Evel Dick Donato could make it while acting like a complete ass, I see no reason why Willie couldn’t have pulled it off. If I was in the house, I would have voted to keep Willie in the house for as long as possible, because as long as he was in the house, the target would be off my back.

Anyway, it seems as if Willie was the only houseguest in there actually playing the game, and now the game and show has gotten boring. Not sure I will continue watching this season, but at least I still have The Glass House to keep me occupied!

Meet the contestants!ABC has a new reality show out this summer called “The Glass House“. The first thing you notice about this show, is that on the outside, it shares a lot of similarities with another summer reality show called “Big Brother”. However, at its core it’s — Oh, who am I kidding?! This is totally exactly like Big Brother!

The show is basically as follows: A group of people are stuck in a house together, they work as a team, and do odd little puzzles and games to win immunity from being evicted that particular week. Also, as a “twist”, the viewers also get to interact with show, through a series of votes. Everyday, the viewers get to vote on things that happen in the house. Like, what do the contestants eat, what types of party they will be given and unlike modern big brother, the viewers also vote, who goes home.

If all of that didn’t sound big brotherishy enough for you, let me also mention, that you can go to the website, and watch live streams from inside the house, but only when the streams are available.

So, it’s a lot like Big Brother, however that doesn’t make it bad! Big Brother is a great show, and one of the only positive things about the summer. Which, by default, makes The Glass House entertaining, and means I will definitely be watching. Plus, you can also watch it on HULU Plus, so that’s a bonus!

Speaking of Big Brother, shouldn’t that be on by now?!?

Awhile back, I gave a list of the 11 best shows streaming on Netflix streaming. Why? Netflix Streaming is a popular service! That’s why! Many people subscribe to netflix, and have their streaming service included in their subscription. Netflix streaming can also be viewed on your TV through a netflix enabled device, or any current generation console.

However, with that being said, I find it only fair to mention that HULU has a similar service called Hulu Plus that does many of the same things. Sure, Netflix Streaming has a wider variety of movies, but HULU Plus has a better variety of television shows. In fact, they have currently airing shows, that are viewable as early as the day after they air on TV.

So, to show that I am not a Netflix fanboy, I will now provide you with a list of the best 11 shows to watch on Hulu Plus.

1) 21 Jump Street – This show was huge when I was in school! Probably because it was a police drama, that high school kids could understand. It centered around a group of cops, wh would go undercover at various high schools and bust the bad guys! It’s probably most known for being the catapult that gave Johnny Depp his shot at stardom. However, Peter DeLuis in my opinion was the true star of the show, and he went on to write some of the best episodes of Stargate SG-1.

2) Night Stalker – A remake of the classic television show Kolchak. The show is about reporter Carl Kolchak as he hunts down all manner of monster. The show only lasted one short season, but what a season it was!

3) The Finder – The show got cancelled from the FOX television line-up, but the whole season can still be watched on HULU plus, at least for now. Not sure what the show is? Well, it’s a spin-off of BONES, but is nothing like BONES. To be honest, the show didn’t seem very FOXlike to begin with, and struck me as more suited for USA networks Characters Welcome line-up.

4) Wiseguy – It’s a show from the 80’s so you know it’s going to be jam-packed with explosions! It follows Vinnie Terranova(The worst Italian name EVER) as he goes undercover in various criminal organization. everything from the MOB to the fashion industry(Dont ask).

5) Dancing with the Stars – Usually I prefer my reality shows with a little less Tango, and a little more bug eating. However, DWTS can be mildly interesting. Mainly because I like to watch b grade celebrities fall on their face in front of a live audience. Granted, that doesn’t happen very often, but when it does? Greatness!

6) Underbelly – Two words that best describe this show are as follows. Australian. Mobsters. It’s a crime drama from down under, that is based on actual events from Melbourne gangland war which lasted from 1995 to 2004. Great show, that’s really worth viewing. unfortunately, as of the time of this writing, only season 2 is available on Hulu Plus.

7) Jack of All Trades – An action comedy starring Bruce Campbell, he plays Jack Stiles, American Secret Agent in the 19th century. One thing I should mention is, is that each episode of this action series is only a half our long. Not very common for an action show.

8) Mongrels – It’s kind of like the Muppets, if the muppets were all mangy looking animals, and had come down with some weird form of tourrettes.

9) Awake – Imagine living 2 different realities, and not knowing which is real, and which is a dream. That’s what police detective Michael Britten has to deal with after a car accident.

10) The Surreal Life – It’s kind of like Big Brother, but with B grade celebrities. That’s pretty much all you need to know really.

11) The Incredible Hulk – Based on the comic book from Marvel, this show centers around Bruce Banner, who was bombarded with gamma radiation, and is now hunted by the government. When his stress levels get up there, he turns green! Don’t make him angry, you won’t like him when he’s angry!

FOX has apparently gone trigger happy and has decided to cancel some of their best shows! Shows like Alcatraz, Terra Nova and “The Finder“(More on my thoughts on the cancellation of the finder in a future post). Meanwhile, they decide to renew shows like “Touch”. Seriously? Touch? Does anyone even watch that show? I didn’t care for it, but I will give it the benefit of a doubt, that some people loved it. Let’s even go on and say, that a good number of people loved it.

However, I refuse to believe, that there were more people watching TOUCH than there were watching Alcatraz, Terra Nova or “The Finder”. Which leaves me wondering, why they renewed that, and cancelled the others? I think it’s one reason, and one reason only. That reason can be summed up in one word. That word is: Kiefer.

I think the only reason it got renewed is because Kiefer is in the show, and FOX thinks the ratings will pick up after the first season, because of Kiefer. I mean, 24 was a huge hit! Clearly, it was Kiefer that made the show, and not the plots, the unique concept and playing on peoples fear of terrorism. I must be Kiefer! So, since the show has Kiefer, it stands to reason that “TOUCH” will improve.

Thing is, they are probably right. Not about Kiefer, but about more people watching TOUCH next season. However, the same thing would have happened with the other shows! Most times, I never watch a show dring season one, because stations love cancelling them! I hate watching a show, getting into it, viewing up until the season finale, watching said finale end with an epic cliff hanger, and then a few weeks later finding out that the show got the axe!

If a show is renewed a second season, I will either rent the first season, or buy the first season, watch it and begin watching the show regularly from season 2 onward.

So, want to improve you views FOX? Try keeping shows with high potential around for more than one season! Other stations do this too, but nowhere near as often as FOX. I’m almost to the point where I won’t watch a FOX show.

However, despite all my ranting about FOXs trigger finger, I am happy(and surprised) to say that “The New Girl” has gotten renewed.

It’s 3:30 in the morning, and instead of getting a good nights sleep, I am sitting here watching the pilot episode of Quantum Leap. Why? Well, the heat for starters! This heat makes it a little difficult to get a nights sleep, let alone a good nights sleep. So, the heat is one reason. The other reason, is because I haven’t seen Quantum Leap in YEARS.

You know what though? Even after all these years, Quantum Leap is still a fantastic show! It just doesn’t get old, which is not something that can be said for most Sci-Fi shows. To be fair though, unlike other Sci-Fi Shows, Quantum Leap doesn’t rely too heavily on special effects, so that’s probably a big reason why it has aged so well.

I really wish they would do either a reunion movie special of Quantum Leap, A Blockbuster movie, or a new TV show based on it. I really think it would do well, because how could it not? It’s Quantum Leap!
